Cosmetic product photography is about more than simply showing a product. Effective beauty photography combines lighting, composition, colour and styling to create images that communicate a product’s visual identity and help it stand out across digital platforms.
For this beauty still life photography project, I photographed two Korean beauty products: MuCent ABC Tone Up Body Cream and Elishacoy Kombucha Gyeol-Biome Mist.
The creative direction focused on clean styling, carefully arranged compositions and soft lighting. Using a light, textured background helped create a warm and refined visual atmosphere while keeping the products at the centre of the photographs.
The final images were designed to demonstrate how professional cosmetic product photography can support beauty brands across social media, e-commerce, digital marketing and other visual campaigns.
What Is Cosmetic Product Photography?
Cosmetic product photography is a specialised form of product photography that presents beauty, skincare and personal care products in a visually appealing and carefully controlled environment.
It can be used to highlight:
- Product packaging
- Brand colours and identity
- Texture and materials
- Product details
- Ingredients or collections
- The overall visual personality of a beauty brand
For beauty products, photography is particularly important because customers often make their first impression of a product through its visual presentation.
The Creative Approach Behind This Beauty Still Life Photography Project
For both product photography sessions, I used a light, textured background with subtle floral details.
Rather than creating a completely plain studio setup, the textured surface added depth and visual interest to the photographs without distracting attention from the products.
The styling remained intentionally simple. The focus was placed on:
- Product arrangement
- Different angles and orientations
- Soft shadows
- Warm highlights
- Packaging colours
- Balance between negative space and product placement
By photographing multiple products together and positioning them at different angles, I created compositions with movement and variation.
This approach allowed the products to feel more dynamic while maintaining a clean and professional beauty photography aesthetic.
MuCent ABC Tone Up Body Cream Photography
The MuCent ABC Tone Up Body Cream has a soft, neutral colour palette that worked particularly well with the light floral-textured background.
For this shoot, I arranged the bottles and packaging at different angles to create a layered still life composition.
Some products were positioned upright, while others were placed horizontally or diagonally. This helped avoid a static product layout and created more visual movement throughout the image.
The soft lighting complemented the neutral packaging and created gentle shadows across the scene.
The result was a collection of beauty product photographs with a clean, warm and editorial feel.
MuCent’s ABC Tone-Up Body Cream is part of the brand’s body-care range.
Why Composition Matters in Body Care Product Photography
Composition can completely change the way a cosmetic product is perceived.
For this shoot, placing products at different angles helped:
- Create depth
- Add movement to the composition
- Showcase multiple sides of the packaging
- Create a more editorial appearance
- Keep the viewer’s attention moving around the photograph
Even when photographing several versions of the same product, careful composition can make the final image feel visually engaging rather than repetitive.
Elishacoy Kombucha Gyeol-Biome Mist Photography
The second part of this project focused on the Elishacoy Kombucha Gyeol-Biome Mist.
The amber-coloured bottles created a strong visual contrast against the light background and white packaging.
For the still life compositions, I combined upright, horizontal and diagonal product placements. This created variety throughout the photographs while allowing the distinctive amber bottles to remain the main visual focus.
The metallic silver caps also reflected the soft lighting, adding another layer of texture and contrast to the composition.
The result was a clean but visually detailed cosmetic photography series that highlighted both the product packaging and the overall aesthetic of the Kombucha collection.
Elishacoy lists Kombucha Gyeol-Biome Mist among its products, and the product is presented as part of its vegan Kombucha skincare range.
